The Monterey Bay Aquarium will leave you deeply intrigued about the many fascinating mysteries that lie beneath the waves. Experiencing a diverse array of vibrant marine life in a single location is truly inspiring and offers a unique perspective on oceanic ecosystems. The meticulous attention to detail showcased throughout the exhibits may ignite a strong desire within you to explore further, making you wish you had more time to fully discover everything this incredible place has to offer. You will have the opportunity to encounter one of the world's very first living kelp forest exhibits, along with a variety of deep-sea creatures.
If you are looking for inspiration, you will find it in Arizona. Our first stop was at the Grand Canyon, like a vast empty ocean sitting silently. It leaves you wondering how such a place was formed over the years. What strikes you the most is how massive this wonder truly is. There we were, but a speck like the grains of sand on the southern rim of the Grand Canyon. We also explored Lower Antelope Canyon. Like a precise artist with his chisel, water carved the amazing and intricate designs that will leave you in awe.
Quality is something that our development team strongly believes in. From the product packaging to the product itself we want to deliver a unique purchasing experience. Developing and designing our first pin was an amazing journey. We learned valuable lessons along the way and are happy to finally have the finished product in hand. We are an adventure focused company and we keep that in mind with every product we sell. Delivering uniquely crafted goods from our expeditions. Our first official pin will soon be available in our shop and we can’t wait to share with you the many more products in development.
Roark had a big role in inspiring us to create Urth Bound. Roark is centered around adventure and exploration. Every year they create various collections inspired by their travels. We support their goal of sparking exploration in others as well. In our travels, Roark gear has proved resilient to changes in landscape and weather. From shirts, backpacks, knives and much more; they have something for everyone.
Photography is a big part of Urth Bound. For a long time, we didn’t know how to share our love of photography and exploration. Roark helped us see that every time we travel somewhere new, it opens up opportunities for us to share those places with others so that they too can enjoy those incredible locations. We have created print collections from some of our expeditions. We offer digital downloads, large format prints and framed prints.
Working together with other talented artists is also very important to us. Fostering a community of support instead of competition is a big priority for us. So far we have worked on collaborations with two talented visual artists. In the future we will be releasing more collaborations with other artists. We are also looking forward to future expeditions and many more products to share with everyone. Thank you Roark for inspiring us to start this journey.
We’ve been spending a lot of time in the desert and for good reason. Inspiring rock formations and textured terrain fill the landscape. This State Park is about an hour and 15 minutes south of Palm Springs, Ca. It’s a park that is not talked about enough. Sure the heat can be tough, but it was worth it. There are pictographs, caves and unforgettable sunsets. We drove down winding roads and walked along deep canyons. Wind gusts picked up the desert sand so at times we had to put on our Bradly Mountain and Roark bandanas. The Badlands took our breath away filled with arid rocky geography. We scoured the area and found much more than what we were looking for. Not far from Anza Borrego is an abandoned resort in Salton Sea called Bombay Beach that is referred to as the “Last Resort”. Once a popular vacation destination is now sitting empty due to the high salt levels of the lake. It’s got an eery feeling, all that is left are crumbling buildings along with artwork that visitors construct. With so much more to see we will be back.
Aside from coffee, there are certain brands that keep us comfortable and offer just what we need on our adventures. There are so many brands that we love but we will highlight just a few on this post. First, let’s talk about Roark. There is so much to say about this brand and it’s all good. Their flagship store is located in San Diego, CA. They offer adventure ready goods that get you excited about your next expedition. From handheld gadgets to clothing, their mission is to inspire adventure and exploration. It’s hard to purchase any other piece of clothing once you have discovered what Roark has to offer. Petes Pirate Life is another one of our favorite brands. One thing that makes them special is the fact that they don’t always have the same products. Their products are unique and inspired by pirates. The owner of this brand is Peter McKinnon, a famous photographer that has inspired us to do what we do here at Urth Bound. One of their most popular products are their coins. Keep a look out, people all over the world leave these coins in popular destinations for you to find. Up next is Fulton & Roark. They offer fragrances, shampoos, soaps and many more grooming products. Nomad is another cool brand that we love. Nomad offers leather goods for your tech products. At Urth Bound we are also tech enthusiasts. It is what keeps us connected and offers us the tools to bring you great content from our adventures. Check them out for long lasting leather cases and amazing tech designs. And speaking of leather goods, we also like Bradley Mountain. Finding their brand at random shops is like a treasure hunt. However, they do have an online store for you to check out while planning your next adventure.
Here is a list of the brands we talked about:
Roark
Petes Pirate Life
Fulton & Roark
Nomad
Bradley Mountain
Check back for more information on brands we love. We’ll be covering each one of these brands more in depth in the future.
We are always in search of good coffee. It’s what fuels our adventures from sunrise to sunset. It is what inspires us and moves us to continue exploring. These are some of our most notable coffee shop finds:
Captain + Stoker Coffee Roasters (Monterey, Ca)
Verve Coffee Roaster (Santa Cruz, Ca)
James Coffee Co. (Little Italy San Diego, Ca)
Communal Coffee (North Park San Diego, Ca)
Moniker General (Liberty Station San Diego, Ca)
Copa Vida (Downtown San Diego, Ca)
Jaunts Coffee (San Diego, Ca)
Saigon Vietnamese Coffee (Poway, CA Farmers Market Sat. 8-1pm)
La Colombe (UTC La Jolla, Ca)
Better Buzz (Encinitas, Ca)
Seaborne Coffee (Oceanside, Ca)
Blue Bottle (Beverly Hills, Ca)
Our favorite has to be James Coffee Co. located in Little Italy San Diego, Ca. This shop sits right below the path of planes landing at San Diego International Airport. It’s owned by the brother of famous photographer Peter Mackinnon. The search doesn’t stop here, we can’t wait to share the many more coffee shops we visit.
Joshua tree is filled with inspiring rock formations that have been created over thousands of years. This is one of our favorite exploration destinations. Here are some of our favorites spots with much more still to discover:
Cholla Cactus Garden
Skull Rock
Hidden Valley
On our next expedition to Joshua Tree we plan to visit
Arch Rock
Barker Dam
Wall Street Mill
Penguin Rock
Lost Horse Mine
On our second expedition to Joshua tree, we climbed a big mound of rocks in Hidden Valley. Once we got to the top, the weather changed drastically. We snapped a quick picture of our new Roark gear and started a fast climb down. On our way down, you could hear the thunder in the distance getting closer. Once we got to the bottom and started to make our way to our vehicles, you could see in the distance exactly were the rain was falling from the clouds. It was a sight to see, as if it were a curtain being closed slowly over the landscape in the distance. There is so much to see and experience, we will definitely be come back for a third expedition. We have released a collection of Joshua Tree prints to share our expeditions with you. You can find the set in our shop here.
France was our first international expedition. We took off from JFK International Airport aboard an Airbus A380. The Jumbo jet was incredible, it almost felt like boarding the Titanic of airplanes. Its hard to believe but these jets can carry 868 people! There we were all headed to the beautiful city of Paris.
We stayed in Paris for 2 weeks at Hotel Du Collectionneur. During those two weeks we learned that the most convenient way to travel is by metro. Here are some of the spots we visited:
Louvre Museum
Arc de Triomphe
Palais Garnier
Eiffel Tower
Palace of Versailles
Champs-Élysées
Montmartre
Seine River Cruise
Jardin du Luxembourg
These are some of the most notable spots in Paris but our favorites are the small unpopular but authentic experiences. Such as a small market we discovered on rue Poncelet. There is a bakery called Paul with delicious croissants and a café with amazing cheesy omelets. If we returned to Paris it would be to discover more hidden gems. On our flight back home, we made a transfer in Amsterdam. As the plane landed we looked out of the window and noticed how beautiful the landscape was. Just like that Amsterdam has made it on our list of future expeditions.
